Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Warriors Group

Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a wide array of heroes, and a gripping narrative featuring divine entities, demons, and dark forces expanding in power within the city.

Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure are included.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The third episode finished on a huge suspense moment and presented the initial group of adventurers who will split off from the primary party to embark on their independent quest, distinct from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table includes the determined fighter (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

Given a large ensemble, it was evident from the beginning that having everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

Hence, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Prelude, intertwining the personal journeys before splitting into three separate parties: Soldiers, Schemers, and Seekers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for players who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are scarce.

Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric the cleric might seem unsuited, but the events of episode 3 show why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose death initiated the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, attacking Thimble, and swiping all the magical artifacts to auction.

The traitor then paid off his obligations and fled to a secure base in the northern region, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each character has a specific drive to leave the city the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the companion and trusted friend, wants vengeance.
  • Kattigan is familiar with the region and cautions that it is a nasty environment.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to kill the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • But, their status as key figures in the powerful family could assist the group reach places they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, Teor vowed a eternal obligation to Wicander for his deliverance and will now accompany him anywhere.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are sought by the rulers that control the setting for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • The target is marked for death by the clan.

This means them few options but to journey toward the northern region in quest for the traitor.

Future Episodes

According to episode three’s follow-up content, we learn that the warrior group won’t be around the following episode, leaving the other eight participants to round up the Explorers and Schemers parties.

Fans can anticipate learning which characters will be where in the season’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on October 24.
