RAF Typhoon FGR4s have operated alongside France's air force in a coordinated attack targeting an hidden munitions depot in Syria employed by the Daesh militant organization, as stated by the British defence ministry.
The site, pinpointed through intelligence, was assessed as housing weapons and explosive materials, the release indicated, and was positioned in mountainous terrain just above Palmyra in central Syria.
"The RAF jets utilized laser-guided Paveway IV weapons to target a number of entry passages down to the depot... initial indications indicate the target was engaged successfully," the ministry announced.
There was no evidence of any harm to civilians in the operation conducted Saturday night and all the aircraft returned safely, the defence officials confirmed.
The Typhoon fighters were supported by a Voyager tanker plane.
Daesh - also known as the so-called Islamic State - enforced extremist governance over large swathes of both Syria and Iraq until 2019.
"This strike underscores British leadership, and determination to work closely with our partners, to eliminate any revival of IS and their dangerous and violent ideologies in the area," UK Defence Secretary the minister said.
RAF aircraft have conducted overwatch operations over Syrian airspace to "prevent any attempted resurgence" of IS subsequent to its routing at the climactic battle in Baghuz in the year 2019, the MoD reported.
"I want to thank the personnel of the UK armed forces participating in this mission for their expertise and their courage," he added. "They were part of a great many UK service members deployed over the holidays. This action, to eliminate dangerous terrorists who endanger our security, highlights how UK forces are always on standby, all year round, protecting the UK at home and influential overseas."
In December, the US military conducted what it termed a "massive strike" targeting Daesh sites in the country, after an assault resulted in the deaths of two US servicemembers and a civilian interpreter in Palmyra.
The U.N. reports Islamic State still has an estimated 5,000 to 7,000 combatants in Syria and Iraq.
